Culture Champion
In PropTech, companies typically prioritise advanced technology and rapid expansion. But at PropertyGuru, we take a different approach—one that views technology less as an end and more as a tool for empowering people to achieve more. It’s a subtle distinction, but one that has enabled people like Agency Sales Specialist Nguyễn Thị Thanh to keep learning, continue growing, and find personal and professional fulfilment.
Embracing Change as a Catalyst for Growth
Thanh’s 11.5-year journey at PropertyGuru demonstrates the transformative power of embracing change. From her early days as a fresh graduate with no industry experience to her current role as a top-performing Sales Specialist, Thanh has consistently sought out challenges as opportunities for growth.
“I had no experience; I started with only enthusiasm and a strong desire to contribute.” Thanh recalls. “I studied journalism and thought I would pursue a career related to that. But upon graduating I decided that I wanted to challenge myself with something new.”
At PropertyGuru, we strive to create an environment where change is seen as a catalyst for development — where people take on new responsibilities. Her eagerness to step out of her comfort zone made her a natural fit. “I was quite shy and reserved. This place has helped me to develop my skills, improve myself, and unlock potential I didn’t know I had”
Building Relationships as the Foundation of Success
In an industry where technology often takes centre stage, we believe it is vital to keep sight of the human element. “I have chances to expand quality relationships with customers. In the future, I think these relationships will be very valuable for me,” Thanh shares.
By fostering an environment that values collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and mutual support, PropertyGuru has cultivated a team dynamic that not only celebrates individual wins but also collective growth.
“My team is highly driven. They are proactive, continuously learning, and sharing their experiences.” She describes. “We celebrate successes together and share knowledge, which creates an environment that fosters both personal and professional growth.”
But it is Thanh’s ability to forge strong client relationships—rooted in trust and value-adding insights— that best exemplifies how PropertyGuru’s people-first approach translates into tangible business results.
“After the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a shortage of property inventory from developers. Clients were at risk of bankruptcy, so I advised them to pivot to a more suitable market segment, like apartment resale. That helped them navigate the crisis. I’ve also guided clients in balancing the benefits of their listing to attracting viewers,” Thanh explains. “Each problem you solve increases the client’s trust, builds your reputation, and makes you a more valued consultant.”
Empowering Employees to Become Trusted Advisors
Through tailored learning opportunities, clear performance metrics, and a supportive management team, we’ve created a framework that continuously supports employees in upskilling and taking ownership of their professional development. “The company regularly assesses performance and provides clear paths for advancement,” Thanh notes. “We also have access to self-learning tools to continually enhance our skills.”
For enterprising professionals like Thanh, skills acquired offer possibilities beyond the workplace. “The relationships I have built have expanded my network and opened up new opportunities.” Thanh shares. “For example, my colleagues and I have used our market knowledge to make investment decisions for our futures.”
This investment in human capital has not only yielded a team of confident, capable professionals but also a roster of clients who view PropertyGuru as a partner in their success.
Aligning Purpose with Profit
Companies are increasingly scrutinized for their societal impact. At PropertyGuru, we believe profit should never come before purpose. People like Thanh underscore our focus on making property search accessible and efficient for millions of people in Southeast Asia.
“I’m also proud that I get to deliver value to customers. You know, Batdongsan’s mission is to help millions of people in Vietnam search for real estate easily. On that journey, I’m part of that shared mission,” she explains.
Employees are vital links in the chain connecting people to their real estate aspirations. We strive to help them see themselves as such. Doing so creates a virtuous loop, improves business outcomes and customer success, and makes for a more rewarding career.
As we navigate the challenges and opportunities of the PropTech landscape, our people-first culture remains our north star. In an industry often dominated by discussions of disruptive technologies and unicorn valuations, we believe that our focus on human potential stands as evidence that in the end, it is people who are the true drivers of success.
These are the stories of those who dare to be more.
